Supporting Buddhist Studies

The SCBS Mission

The Stanford Center for Buddhist Studies is dedicated to the promotion of the academic study and public understanding of Buddhism. The Center assists Religious Studies and other departments of the university to further the teaching of Buddhism at Stanford. It cooperates with Buddhist and other groups both on and off campus to foster knowledge of Buddhism in the community. And it works with individuals and institutions around the world to encourage scholarly research and communication in Buddhist Studies.

In the ten years since its founding, SCBS has developed an international reputation as one of the world’s premier institutions for Buddhist Studies. Still, there is much more to be done to build SCBS into a comprehensive center for the study of Buddhism. SCBS is now engaged in a campaign to endow its programs and expand its resources. If you are interested in the future of Buddhist studies, we invite you to consider joining us in this effort.
