Wajahat Habibullah graduated in B.A. (Honours) History, St. Stephens’ College followed by M.A.(History) from University of Delhi in 1967. In 1968, he joined the Indian Administrative Services. He was the divisional commissioner of nine districts in the state of Jammu & Kashmir between 1991 and 1993. He is widely published on issues related to Kashmir, the conflict and the Political Economy of Kashmir. On 26th October 2005, he took over Chief Information Commissioner of India. In 2009, he resigned from the post of Chief Information Officer to take up his new assignment as the Right to Information watchdog in Jammu and Kashmir. Presently, he is the Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities.
